Duelyst sports several game modes that differ in rules and rewards:
Practice: Practice allows you to challenge a computer-controlled opponent and unlock different Factions by defeating them. You may use either the pre-set Starter Decks, or your own Custom Decks, once you unlock a Faction and create them in the “Collection”.
Solo Challenges: After a few Practice matches, new players should continue with the Solo Challenges in order to learn more about the tactics of the game. Solo Challenges are home to challenges where one must defeat the opponent in only one turn. Challenges are intended to improve a player's skill, and offer rewards upon completion.
Season Ladder: On Season Ladder, players compete against other players. Winning a game earns the player a chevron, while losing makes one lose a chevron. Upon gaining or losing enough chevrons, the player's rank is changed. There are 30 total ranks which make up 5 divisions, and a different number of chevrons is needed at each rank to reach the next one:
- Bronze Division: Rank 30 - Rank 21 (1-2 chevrons)
- Silver Division: Rank 20 - Rank 11 (3-4 chevrons)
- Gold Division: Rank 10 - Rank 6 (5 chevrons)
- Diamond Division: Rank 5 - Rank 1 (6 chevrons)
- S-Rank Division
Once a player enters a division, he or she cannot drop below the minimum rank for that division. E.g., Silver Division players cannot drop below rank 20, Gold Division players cannot drop below rank 10, and so on.
Win streaks earn players additional chevrons: Starting at 3 wins in a row, one gets 2 chevrons for each win. Win streaks are only possible from Bronze Division, rank 25 to Diamond Division, rank 5.
Ranks are reset each season. Seasons last from the first to the last day of every month.
Players get rewards after the season end based of their current division.
Boss Battles: Boss Battles are a player vs. AI mode in which is pitted against an AI controlled Boss. Bosses have powerful abilities and strong decks, often requiring the player to think outside of the normal meta in order to defeat them. Once you defeat a boss, you will gain an Orb and a special Boss crate. You can continue to play against them once beaten, but you will not earn any additional rewards.
