Gameplay in DUELYST is turn-based, with players taking turns to play cards from their hand to cast spells, equip artifacts, or summon minions to move and attack on the battlefield on their behalf. You’ll score a victory if you manage to reduce the enemy General's health to zero before they reduce yours.
Before a match, you can replace up to two cards from your starting hand.
You may either start on the left side of the battlefield as the first player, or on the right side as the second player. The first player has the opportunity to move first, but the second player receives one extra Mana.
You draw one card automatically after clicking on the End Turn button.
You may summon a minion or cast a spell on any eligible tile. Some minions and spells can be used anywhere on the battlefield, while others need a friendly adjacent unit.
An artifact, once dragged on the battlefield, will be automatically equipped to your General. The starting durability is 3, and each time your General receives damage will remove one durability.
You move on the battlefield by dragging your General or minion to any eligible square. You many not move after the selected unit attacked.
You can attack by selecting your unit, then dragging it onto an adjacent enemy.
A Bloodborn Spell is a general's unique ability which can be used beginning on the third turn (Not after receiving the third mana crystal, but the 3rd turn). It’s use is refreshed every other turn following it’s use until you reach 9 mana, at which point it becomes available every turn.
